Ghostwriting

I am a ghostwriter – and I love doing it. I’m a published author, freelance writer, have been a regular blogger for the websites Serene Ambition, Momlogic and Baby Bullet. Though I am published under the genres of both humor and women’s issues, I am not limited to those topics.  I have ghostwritten memoirs, how-to books, essays and exposés.  Because I’ve already been published, I am perfectly content not to have my name on someone else’s work.  In fact, I want the best for my clients and will help them in any way I can.  One of my clients won a prestigious 2010 Golden Pen Media Award for the book Streetchild.  We worked on his memoir for 6 months – until both of us were satisfied. I’m happy to offer the same experience to you.

Credentials

Marilyn Kentz is a 3-time published author and television personality. Her books include: Bombeckesque, The Mother Load: When Your Life is on Spin Cycle and You Just Can’t Get the Lid Up. (HarperCollins); a guide for modern midlifers: Not Your Mother’s Midlife: A Ten-Step Guide to Fearless Aging (Andrews/McMeel); and the beautiful photo essay: Fearless Women: Midlife Portraits (Stewart, Tabori, Chang).

She was nominated for a Cable Ace Award for best comedy writing and performing for her Showtime Comedy Special, “My Kid Beat Up Your Honor Student”. In the 90s she and next-door-neighbor, Caryl Kristensen, parlayed their standup comedy act into the NBC sitcom, “The Mommies”. She then co-hosted the ABC talk show Caryl & Marilyn: Real Friends. She volunteered in the LA Unified schools as a writing coach for 9th grade students for two years. Today she penned and performs the hit solo comedy show, “Will I Ever Wear A Bikini Again?” She speaks around the country, is a parent educator, facilitates writer’s support groups and women’s support groups, and is a ghostwriter.

WRITING DUTIES:

We would begin by looking at what you have already, talking about your story and create a basic outline. We’ll talk on the phone, I’ll send you something to read as well as revisions and I’ll ask you lots of questions. You can change each section until it feels just right. This is your book. No one can tell the story better than you. I can enhance it, can bring out more feeling, can make it into a literary piece, edit out the dead wood (good writing is all about editing) and encourage you. We’ll find your voice. We become partners for several months and then I’ll happily watch you soar. I want you to be proud of your work and begin telling people you are an author.

I adhere to a timely schedule. I strive for a four to six month turn around, but have been known to finish sooner.

FEES

$20K – split into three sections: 1st payment begins upon commencement; the 2nd one is at the halfway point, then the final payment will be at completion (after the second draft).

Because the proposal is a whole other animal, I charge a separate fee of $5K for that service.

Private Consulting

Has anyone ever told you that your life is so interesting you should write a book?  Have you experienced, and then conquered a particular hardship that others could learn from?  Do you have a story to write about some colorful character in your family?  Well, I am here to help.

I have ghost written several books (see below for examples), and it’s one of my favorite things to do. We become partners for several months and then I’ll happily watch you soar.  I want you to be proud of your work and begin, as soon as we start, telling people you are an author.

I adhere to a timely schedule.  I strive for a four to six month turn around, but have been known to finish sooner.  I can help create and advise about book proposals (a book proposal is another animal, and therefore another fee), I’ll write the original cover letter and use my personal connections in order to help you secure a reputable Literary Agent.

My fee is determined by the size of the project.  I take into consideration the fact that I’m an experienced, three-time published author, can lead you in the direction of finding a literary agent through my connections, will write your cover letter and have ghostwritten several books.  I’m more than happy to give you my past client’s information if you’d like to contact them.
